Arterberry Winery
(1979-1990)

Arterberry Winery was well known for producing premium sparkling wines and cider. It was the first Oregon winery to successfully make and sell these products.

Fred Arterberry, Jr. graduated from UC-Davis enology program in 1977, and bonded his winery in 1979. His sparkling cider won a gold medal at the 1981 Oregon State fair. Later he produced premium varietal wines. Many of his grapes were sourced from long time, well regarded Dundee Hills grape grower James Maresh.

Arterberry Winery (1979-1990)In 1986 the Oregon Knights of the Vine awarded Arterberry the Commander’s Award for his unique industry contributions. Arterberry passed away in 1990. The winery was located at 905 E. 10th Street, McMinnville, OR.


 

Fun Facts

In 1979, Arterberry produced Oregon’s first sparkling cider, and then the first Champagne, which he called “Sparkling Chardonnay”, and “Red Hills Brut”.
