Fred Arterberry, Jr
Arterberry Winery

In the 1980’s Fred Arterberry, Jr. was well known for producing high quality sparkling wines and cider and was the first Oregon winemaker to successfully market these sparklers under the Arterberry Winery label.

Fred graduated from the UC-Davis enology program in 1977, and bonded his winery in 1979. His sparkling cider won a gold medal at the Oregon State fair in 1981. Later he produced a line of premium varietal wines, several of which earned high ratings from Wine Spectator Magazine. Many of his grapes were sourced from long time Dundee Hills grape grower James Maresh.

In 1986 the Oregon Knights of the Vine awarded Arterberry the Commander’s Award for his unique contribution to the industry. Arterberry passed away in 1990.
