PATRICIA GREEN (1955-2017)

Patricia Green Cellars

Along with Jim Anderson, her business partner, Patricia Green co-founded Patricia Green Cellars in 2000.

In July 2000, they purchased Autumn Wind Vineyards located in the Ribbon Ridge AVA not far from Newberg in Yamhill County.  (See the history of Autumn Wind under Pioneering Vineyards tab.)  The acquisition included Autumn Wind’s 22-acre vineyard, winery and equipment.  The oldest vines dated to 1984.

From this start Patricia Green Cellars continued to expand and produced about 12,000 cases per year of primarily single vineyard Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.  The wines were sold in over 23 states.

Patricia Green’s career in Oregon wine began in 1986 when she started picking grapes and working for two years in the cellar for Richard Sommers at Hillcrest Vineyard near Roseburg.  She next worked for Adelsheim Vineyard during 1990-1991.  In 1993 she joined Torii Mor Winery as head winemaker, and sole employee at the time. At the same time, she remained lead winemaker for La Garza Cellars in Roseburg for years 1993-1994, and remained consulting winemaker for the next two years.

Patricia Green passed away in November 2017 and was recognized as one of the most influential winemakers in Oregon. Patricia Green Cellars continues in operation.
